Khomapastr
A truly authentic product of the Hua Hin area is produced here, one of Thailand’s first textile houses and among the country’s most cherished and highly regarded brands. Established in 1948 (in the same year as Jim Thompson’s silk company) by his Royal Highness Prince Bovoradej and her Serene Highness Pajongchitr Kridakorn who were drawn to the beauty and charm of Hua Hin.
Komapastr mainly features cotton products, specializing in hand-printing designs and classical patterns. The ‘pha kiao’, the fabric adorning royal palanquins, is especially popular and beautiful. Although many designs have been modernized to meet the demands of today’s consumers on such lifestyle products as placemats, tablecloths and cushion covers, you will also find the time-honored traditional patterns dating back to the company’s early days.
It would hard to find a souvenir more expressive of the heritage and beauty of Hua Hin than a fabric product from Khomapastr.
WALKING STREETS
Chatchai Night Market
Nothing calls to mind the lively evening scene of Hua Hin like this legendary night market. Here, as the sun goes down, you can indulge in some of the tasty street food that helps to make Thai cuisine so adorable or even some homemade ice cream in local flavors. It’s also a great place to pick up some souvenirs or even some lifestyle items. You’ll find everything, from handmade jewelry and local crafts to beachwear, funky lamps, music CDs and so much more. When you need a break from shopping, you’ll find that the street is lined with a good number of tantalizing restaurants as well as a few spots for a refreshing drink.
Cicada Market
It's another place of interest to the art-inspired. Offering all kinds of handmade crafts in an open-air market concept, it brings together Hua Hin’s artistic talents. And plenty of good times as well. Besides the crafts market, you’ll also find an art gallery, beer garden and fun live music perfect for spending a few hours.
Plern Wan
This open-air mall is described as a living museum where you can experience a slice of life in 1950s Hua Hin. Take a journey through time in this two-storey courtyard-style building, an architectural statement in itself, which houses a community of period-style shops selling everything from liquor, inexpensive plastic-and-tin toys, and snacks as well as housing a beauty salon, photo studio and outdoor cinema screen.
