A Welcome Return and One with a Promise: InterContinental Hua Hin Resort Reopens While Making the Health and Safety of All a Priority

After a two-month closure in response to COVID-19, InterContinental Hua Hin Resort now reopens. From 1 June 2020 the resort will be welcoming guests back to Thailand’s premier seaside community.

It hardly needs saying these have been difficult times throughout the world. But key statistics including in Thailand show the situation regarding COVID-19 as steadily improving. With this in mind – and while continuing to closely monitor events – InterContinental Hua Hin Resort has set the hotel’s reopening for 1 June 2020.

The date is in accord with official Thai government policy as well as public health advisements in the country on a safe return to full operations at hotels and other hospitality-related businesses. InterContinental Hotels Group’s own policies, moreover, have contributed to the decision to resume operations at InterContinental Hua Hin Resort.

Important new duties

Yes, a date has been set. However, as General Manager Michael Janssen is quick to point out, there’s far more to reopening the resort than merely circling a number on the calendar.

‘Of course first and foremost in our minds,’ says Janssen, ‘is that the pandemic has caused much suffering as well as economic hardship. Yet now, as we prepare for reopening, those of us in the hotel business also must bear in mind some new and vitally important duties required of us following the crisis.’

The GM continued, ‘We know it isn’t a matter of going back to business as usual. It can’t be. While the health and safety of our guests has certainly always been a priority, the measures we take from now on in that regard must be even more extensive and will involve, unsurprisingly, scrupulous attention given to hygiene matters. And that applies everywhere at the resort including all guest rooms, public spaces and staff areas.’

Among measures alluded to by the GM are body-temperature checks conducted on each person upon entering the hotel, in addition to thorough cleaning and disinfection of public areas including high-contact surfaces such as lift buttons, handrails and door handles. Hand sanitisers likewise have been installed throughout the resort.

Physical distancing will be another important health-and-safety aspect as the resort reopens to guests. Seating around swimming pools and at all dining venues will be in accord with guidelines determined by public health authorities. However, to lessen any inconvenience the resort will be offering service enhancements such as additional à la minute breakfast menu items for preparation at each guest table.

IHG Clean Promise

The above health and safety protocols are part of InterContinental Hotels Group’s IHG Clean Promise initiative. An enhancement of the group’s IHG Way of Clean programme, IHG Clean Promise builds on partnerships with health-industry experts Cleveland Clinic, Ecolab and Diversey to provide strengthened, science-led hygiene procedures.

IHG Clean Promise supports the wellbeing of guests and colleagues through a range of procedures such as: deep-cleaning with use of hospital-grade disinfectants; new standards and service approaches at all dining venues; individual guest cleaning kit amenities; and contact point reduction through emphasis on touchless transactions including paperless check-out along with similar changes designed to limit physical contact. IHG colleagues also will take part in upgraded training and certification programmes, with each hotel’s team appointing ‘Clean Champions’ to help staff and guests better understand new cleanliness standards and processes.

With the IHG Clean Promise in place, guests are assured of rigorous hygiene and sanitation methods applied within well maintained, clutter-free rooms and throughout all public spaces. If that isn’t what guests find when checking in to InterContinental Hua Hin Resort, then General Manager Michael Janssen and his colleagues promise to make it right.

Community champions too

The two-month closure of InterContinental Hua Hin Resort was no idle down time. During the period, hotel staff members not only remained busy with preparations for eventual reopening but also provided community support during the crisis. For instance in May, InterContinental Hua Hin Resort along with partners Holiday Inn Vana Nava Hua Hin and Vana Nava Water Jungle joined the mayor of Hua Hin Municipality, Noppom Wutthikul, in organising food donations for those affected by COVID-19.

Indeed, it is precisely through such care, concern and hard work that InterContinental Hua Hin Resort can now ensure guests that from 1 June they’ll enjoy a safe and healthy holiday by the sea.
